PIANO LESSON FAQ'S

What musical levels do you teach?

Beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Learning to play an instrument is rewarding on so many levels, that we believe it is never too late to start!

What musical styles do you teach?

Classical, popular tunes, and some jazz. All teaching methods involve a bit of compromise to get the best results. What works for you may not work for other students. We strive to tailor our teaching to each individual’s needs, rather than sticking to the same ‘blueprint’ with every student.

Where are the lessons taught?

You learn in your home, on your piano, at your speed.

What will I learn?

Let us show you how we'll gear your lessons to your own level of ability, interest, and musical background. We teach students of all ages to:
  • read music
  • develop your musical ear
  • play popular and classical songs
  • understand basic music theory
  • develop and improve your piano playing technique (including posture and correct hand positioning)

If I don't have a piano, what would you recommend?

If you do not have a piano, a full size keyboard (88 keys) is recommended, preferably located in an area where there are no distractions, i.e. television or any other loud noises.

What books do I need to start?

One piano lesson book and a theory book are required to start. We have provided some recommendations below, however if you already own several other books, the piano instructor will evaluate whether additional books will be necessary.

What are your rates for piano lessons?

$40 per half hour; $65 per hour; 10% discount for non-refundable monthly prepayments

How do these monthly non-refundable prepayments work?

For students who are taking a minimum of 4 lessons per month, we offer a 10 % discount on monthly prepayments. To clarify "non-refundable,"

  • Using this plan requires a minimum of four lessons per month.
  • We require a full 24-hours notice on requests for cancellation or rescheduling.
  • If you cancel a particular lesson with 24-hours notice, we will offer an alternative time/day for a substitute session or carry over your advance payment to the following session within that same month, but if we have less than 24-hours notice or it is not possible to add an alternative session within that month, we will not carry over your advance payment to the next session, unless there are seriously exigent circumstances.

Where and when do lessons take place?

We offer lessons in your home subject to availability in our piano teacher's schedule. Our piano teacher runs a busy schedule, so we start promptly at the agreed-upon time and end promptly at the agreed-upon time.
